The Nevada Water Center of Excellence (COE) has been recommended by the Advisory Council to GOED for funding through the Knowledge Fund. The Nevada Water COE will focus on water technologies and leverage the intellectual capital of Nevada’s System of Higher Education (NSHE), IBM and key partners, including Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA), Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR), and the Desert Research Institute (DRI). It will serve as a basis for a new public and private sector collaboration that will accelerate innovation-based economic development across the State of Nevada.
Leveraging the world-renowned expertise of all its partners, the Nevada Water COE will:
- Attract, partner with, and service national and international businesses in the water domain;
- Deliver high value shared services to public and private sector clients, while building job skills and assisting DETR in workforce development;
- Assist with commercializing and distributing the collective domain expertise in water science, technology and management.
The Nevada Water COE will commercialize and distribute its stakeholders’ water technology research expertise to a broad range of customers, public and private, national and international. It will also provide testing, networking, and marketing opportunities for proven international technologies in the field of water research and applications that want to come to the U.S. Ultimately, this will create quality job growth and economic diversification in Nevada.
The Nevada Water COE will be a facilitator and collaborator, bringing buyers, sellers and researchers to a common platform to conduct applied research within the water space. Establishing the Nevada Water COE will be a significant step in developing an innovation-based economy in Nevada. Read the entire Nevada Water Center of Excellence Knowledge Fund Proposal.
